How Often Should You Schedule Home Exterior Washing?

Your home is your biggest investment. Protecting your investment involves maintenance inside and out.
Best-practice for outside maintenance involves a timeline that’s easy to follow to help preserve the value of your home. Here’s a quick overview.
Home exterior washing twice a year is ideal
- Removes dirt & pollen
- Eliminate moss
- Cleans algae & fungus
- Maintains high curb appeal
Home exterior washing is best done yearly as a minimum standard. That said, because we live in a wet climate here on the west coast, twice-a-year exterior cleanings are ideal, particularly as part of a pro-active maintenance plan to keep your home spotless and damage-free.
There are good reasons why cleaning your exterior is so important.
One reason is dirt attracts dirt. So, if your house exterior is dirty, other airborne contaminants are more likely to ‘stick’ to it. Which is to say, particles can more easily find purchase on a dirty surface than they can on a clean one.
That makes pollen a big problem for household members and visitors with allergies during this time of year. And if you happen to live near one of the many construction sites over the summer, any dust, dirt and pollutants picked-up by the wind are more likely to settle on your home than blow on by. (That goes for salt spray as well for coastal properties.)
Another reason is due to our wet climate. Algae, mould, mildew, moss and other unwanted organisms love damp places. Once they start growing on your exterior, they’re unsightly and affect the curb appeal of your home Additionally, they’re more likely to damage it by leaving stains or causing rot. Removing it annually, or semi-annually will prevent this.
In conclusion, to help preserve the value of your home, we recommend scheduling home exterior washing yearly for some homes, and semi-annually for homes near a lot of trees, close to construction sites, or near the coast.
